Terms of use
Last updated: 21 October 2026
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Tanuki Solutions Sdn Bhd (company number 202101016081), a company in Malaysia ("36Stories", "we"). They cover the 36Stories app and the website 36stories.camera. By using either, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Who can use 36Stories
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy anything. If you use 36Stories for a business, such as a wedding planner, you confirm you can accept these terms for it.
What 36Stories is
36Stories works like a roll of film: you take a set number of photos without previews or retakes, and they develop at the time the host chose. You can use your own camera without signing in. To host or join an event you sign in, with Apple, Google or an email code; guests then join with a code, a QR code or a link, and never pay. What each event can do depends on its host's plan: The Viewfinder (free), The Film Club or The Darkroom set how many events a host can make and how many guests each takes. We improve 36Stories over time and may add, change or remove features.
Your photos
Your photos stay yours. You give us permission to store them, apply the film look you chose, make smaller copies, and show them to the people the event allows, only to run 36Stories for you. This permission ends when the photos are deleted, apart from short-lived backups.
Only share photos you have the right to share, and respect the people in them. Galleries are deleted when their period ends: for an event you host, it follows your current plan, and you are warned first (see the privacy policy). Download what you want to keep. 36Stories is not a backup service.
Hosts and planners
If you host an event, you are responsible for it: who you invite, letting guests know their photos are shared with the event, the settings you choose, and the reports you handle. If you give us a guest list, you confirm you are allowed to share those names with us. Planners are also responsible to their own clients for how they use 36Stories at their events.
Rules for everyone
Don't use 36Stories to:
- share anything illegal, or any sexual content involving a minor (we report it to the authorities);
- share intimate images of anyone without their consent;
- harass, threaten or spread hate about anyone;
- infringe someone else's copyright or other rights;
- pretend to be someone else, or join events you weren't invited to;
- break, overload, scrape or copy the service, or get around its limits.
Anyone in an event can report a photo. Hosts and 36Stories can remove content, block a guest, and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
Purchases in the app
The Film Club and The Darkroom subscriptions, film stocks and Keep forever are bought in the app through Apple's App Store or Google Play, under their terms, and paid to them. The Film Club and The Darkroom are for personal, non-commercial use; businesses use a planner plan. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. Prices are shown in the store before you buy.
Planner plans
Planner plans are bought on our website and billed by Stripe, monthly or yearly, by card or by FPX against an invoice. They renew automatically until you cancel; a cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you paid for. When a plan ends, its events stay read-only for 30 days and are then deleted. Each event allows up to 1,000 guests under fair use. If an invoice goes unpaid, its events may be paused until it is paid.
Availability
We work hard to keep 36Stories running and your photos safe, including keeping photos on your phone until they upload. But we provide 36Stories "as is" and can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
Our responsibility
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable losses, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or RM 100. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited, including Malaysia's Consumer Protection Act 1999.
Ending
You can stop using 36Stories at any time and delete your account in the app or on our account deletion page. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or the law, and we'll tell you unless we can't.
Changes
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using 36Stories after that, the new terms apply.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia handle any dispute, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
If you got 36Stories from Apple's App Store
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
- You may use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store's Usage Rules allow.
- Apple is not responsible for maintaining or supporting the app. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for the app (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection, privacy, or intellectual property; we handle those.
- You confirm you are not in a country under a United States government embargo and not on a United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
